Early Childhood Outpatient Treatment
This externship is ideally suited for advanced practicum students seeking further training in early childhood outpatient therapy. The extern will spend two days per week with the Early Childhood Behavioral Health Program at Children’s National Hospital. The extern will receive training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), with opportunities to potentially become a PCIT-certified therapist. The extern may also gain exposure to Child Parent Psychotherapy and Applied Behavior Analysis-informed treatment. In addition to formal in-person supervision, opportunities for didactics include case conferences with child psychiatrists and clinical social workers, psychiatry grand rounds and clinical seminars.
Applicants must be in at least the third year of a doctoral program, have completed formal coursework in child development and treatment, and have had prior practicum experience with child and adolescent assessment and therapy. Preference will be given to advanced doctoral students.
