Pediatric Psychology Consult Externship
As a collaboration among medical specialty faculty members, we are pleased to offer a dynamic externship in Pediatric Psychology Specialty Consult. This position is ideally suited for advanced practicum students seeking specialized training in pediatric psychology. During this externship, the trainee will complete medical specialty consultation rotations, which will provide them with a solid foundation in the psychosocial aspects of multiple acute and chronic health conditions. The goal is for the extern to learn to assess and treat behavioral and emotional factors that impact the child’s medical condition through clinic consultation roles.
The purposes of psychology consultations in medical specialties include promoting healthy child development, behavior and psychological adjustment and coping in the context of child health conditions. The extern will engage in clinic consultation and short-term health-focused treatment within selected inpatient and outpatient medical subspecialities. The extern will use the principles of behavior, learning and psychosocial adaptation from the clinical, rehabilitation and pediatric psychology literatures in both inpatient and outpatient settings. All rotations include collaboration with physicians, nursing, social work and other allied team members.
