Children’s National Holds Dedication for First-of-its-Kind Minimally Invasive Pediatric Surgical Training Center

November 03, 2015

Washington, DC – Children’s National Health System held a dedication ceremony for the hospital's first-of-its-kind pediatric center, the KARL STORZ Center of Excellence – Minimally Invasive Surgical Training Center.

The center, which completed its inaugural training session earlier this year, is part of the hospital's Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation. The space is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical towers and instruments, reflecting the latest tools and techniques for minimally invasive pediatric surgery. Led by Tim Kane, MD, Chief of the Division of General and Thoracic Surgery, and Nancy Bauman, MD, Otolaryngologist, a minimum of four courses will be taught on an annual basis to fellows, interns, residents, and attending physicians.

“The first-ever partnership between KARL STORZ and a pediatric hospital is enhancing our Sheikh Zayed Institute for Pediatric Surgical Innovation.  This partnership supports our focus on building expertise and sharing knowledge to tackle our bold mission of making surgery more precise, less invasive, and pain free,” said Kurt Newman, MD, President and CEO, Children’s National. “We are grateful to share in this celebration with KARL STORZ, one of our corporate partners.”

Attending the dedication ceremony were several representatives from KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America, Inc., the center's namesake. The company is a long-standing promoter of innovation in minimally invasive surgery.

“Caring for children requires unique and dedicated solutions. We are proud to support Children’s National in their endeavor to innovate and educate in the pediatric surgical space across various sub-specialties and we are proud to recognize them as a KARL STORZ Center of Excellence," said Ali Amiri, Vice President of Marketing and Product Development, KARL STORZ.
