Our Cardiac ICU, a modern, 34,000 square foot space with 26 beds and private rooms, has advanced heart technology, including ventricular assist devices (VADs).
As a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, we are uniquely qualified to provide emergency care for children, from the design of the department to our highly skilled professionals who understand the special needs of younger, smaller patients.

In 1975, Children's National Hospital opened one of the first intensive care units dedicated for children in the United States. While advances in technology have changed the look of our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, an enduring hallmark of our care is an emphasis on comfort for patients and compassion for the entire family.
Children's National has the only Pediatric Level I Trauma Center in the Washington, D.C., area and accepts trauma patients from all geographic areas. We partner with the Maryland Shock Trauma System to provide coverage in Montgomery, Prince George's County, St. Mary's, Calvert and Charles counties.
