Personal Care

Children’s specially trained pediatric pharmacists coordinate with your child’s doctor and healthcare team to develop a safe and effective treatment plan, and provide assistance with:

  • Accompanying care teams on patient visits
  • Educating patients and families about medications and dosing guidelines
  • Identifying and evaluating drug allergies and adverse drug reactions
  • Monitoring for therapeutic medications
  • Providing nutrition consultations
  • Screening for drug-related problems

Patient safety is a priority for the division. We regularly evaluate the use and effectiveness of medications, and follow rigorous quality measures and policies to protect our patients.

To provide the best care for every child, specialized teams staff the following hospital units that require dedicated pharmacists:

Special Activities and Research

To continually improve and advance patient care, our team is actively involved in a variety of interdisciplinary programs at Children’s National, including the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the Pharmacy Nursing Committee, and various unit-based and policy and procedure committees. We also support our colleagues at Children’s National with research protocols and provide pharmacy services for ongoing clinical trials.

If you are interested in learning more about current research studies and clinical trials, speak with your child’s doctor, nurse, or other care team members.
