Children's National Cardiology Team Expands with Acquisition of Two Pediatric Cardiology Clinics
Washington, DC – Children’s National Health System is pleased to announce today, Sept. 2, a new affiliation with the Georgetown Pediatric Cardiology Associates, a two-office pediatric cardiology practice founded by Thomas J. Hougen, MD.
Dr. Hougen has close ties with Children’s National having served as Division Chief of Cardiology from 1989 to 1997.
With the acquisition, Dr. Hougen’s offices in Arlington, Va. and Northwest Washington, DC, will become Children’s National’s satellite cardiology clinics. The clinics will provide full cardiology services to patients and families, including outpatient visits, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and other diagnostic testing as needed.
As part of the acquisition, Dr. Hougen and other Children’s National cardiologists will continue to provide consultation to the Virginia Hospital Center nursery and pediatric ward.
“We believe this move will be advantageous to both patients and referring physicians,” said Charles Berul, MD, Division Chief of Cardiology. “Dr. Hougen and his patients will have electronic health records, increased learning opportunities, and seamless access to leading pediatric specialists at Children’s National.”
Dr. Hougen will continue to see patients at both locations, and scheduling procedures will remain the same. However, billing, insurance, and other office administration functions will be assumed by Children’s National. By November, Children’s National will have three pediatric cardiologists working at the Arlington location.
