The pediatric Emergency Department at Cedar Hill is staffed by board-certified Children's National pediatric emergency medicine physicians, pediatricians, nurses and support staff — all trained and dedicated solely to the care of your child. No matter how big or how small the emergency, we provide specialized treatment in a friendly, caring environment. Care is available here for all District residents, and in particular, communities east of the river.

What to Do in An Emergency

If your child needs immediate medical attention and you cannot quickly and safely bring your child to the Emergency Department, please call 911 immediately.

What emergency care services are offered at Cedar Hill?

When your child has an accident or suddenly becomes ill, your only concern is finding the best care available. Our pediatric team at the Emergency Department (ED) at Cedar Hill in Washington, D.C., is here for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year. The pediatric ED features a separate registration, triage and waiting area for children and adolescents. Additional child-focused services include pediatric radiology and lab services.

Children’s National Emergency Department at Cedar Hill provides pediatric emergency medical care for countless injuries and illnesses.

Among the most common are:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Asthma and breathing problems
  • Behavioral health illnesses
  • Broken bones
  • Burns
  • Cuts and lacerations that may need stitches
  • Fever
  • Poisonings
  • Respiratory infections, including pneumonia and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)
  • Sprains and strains
  • Sepsis
  • Vomiting illnesses

Most children seen in our Emergency Department can return home after being treated. If your child requires more extensive care, they may require transfer to the main Children’s National Hospital.

Our Location

The hospital is centrally located in Ward 8 on the St. Elizabeth’s East campus, near the Congress Heights Metro Station, just north of the Entertainment and Sports Arena.
