Children's National and The HSC Health Care System Sign Letter of Intent to Partner

WASHINGTON –Today, Children’s National Health System signed a Letter of Intent with The HSC Health Care System (HSC) to pursue a partnership creating more integrated care delivery for children and young adults with complex needs in D.C. and across the Mid-Atlantic region.

With a combined 283 years of pediatric experience, Children’s National and HSC each have significant expertise delivering health care for children and young adults, particularly those with complex needs and rare health conditions. The Letter of Intent is an outgrowth of discussions between the two organizations over the past several months and enables the organizations to begin more formal due diligence discussions and operational planning.

The aim of the partnership is to deliver seamless care coordination that improves quality, access, patient satisfaction and overall community health and wellness.

“We are excited to pursue an even closer relationship with HSC. As we’ve continued to make innovative advances in improving the outcomes and quality of life for children in our community with complex medical needs, there’s an increasing benefit to highly integrated care,” says Kurt Newman, M.D., president and CEO of Children’s National Health System. “Bringing our respective strengths together could help us do that more seamlessly.”

“The patients and families we serve are required to navigate a complex system with a multitude of specialists and services required for their care. Together, we know we can make it easier for children and young adults with complex needs to access care. Ultimately, this partnership will improve the quality of life for our patients and their families,” says Nathaniel Beers, M.D., president and CEO of The HSC Health Care System.

The two organizations are working toward a final agreement in 2019.
