Children’s National Health System Images Selected for National Pediatric Hospital Photo Exhibit

February 27, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Two Children’s National Health System photographs were selected for inclusion in the 2017 Children’s Hospitals Photo Exhibit, a national competition administered by the Children’s Hospital Association.

The judges selected two Children’s National photographs for their excellent composition and ability to depict what makes children’s hospitals unique. The photographs depict newborn Hailey grasping her mom’s finger while sleeping in the neonatal intensive care unit and a comforting nurse holding toddler Zekale as he awaits surgery to correct cleft palate.

“It is our honor to share these precious moments with the community,” says Kurt Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children’s National. “The warmth and tenderness captured in these photos embody the spirit of Children’ National and what makes this such a special place for care and healing.”

This exhibit communicates the hope, compassion, and resilience shared by children and families served by children’s hospitals and the expert healthcare providers who deliver that specialized care. The photos in the exhibit celebrate pediatric hospitals’ commitment to all children, whether they are heathy, facing illness, or coping with a rare condition.

Photos taken by Mike Malone, of Malone & Co., were chosen from more than 180 photographs submitted by 40 children’s hospitals across the country by a distinguished panel of judges representing Parents magazine, The Exposure Group, National Geographic Kids, Positive Exposure and the Children’s Hospitals Today editorial advisory group.

The 2017 Children’s Hospitals Photo Exhibit is presented by HUGGIES® and will be on display to the general public the week of July 10 in the rotunda of the Russell Senate Office Building and in the foyer of the Rayburn House Office Building on July 17 and 18. In addition the exhibit will travel around the country for two years as it is displayed at children’s hospitals and partner organizations in support of a variety of outreach efforts and events.
