The American Board of Pediatrics Elects Robin Steinhorn, MD, to its Board of Directors

Washington, DC— The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) has elected Robin Steinhorn, MD, Senior Vice President of the Center for Hospital Based Specialties at Children’s National Health System, to its Board of Directors for a six-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2017.

“Robin has dedicated her career to helping children and advancing the field of pediatrics,” says David Wessel, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Hospital and Specialty Services at Children’s National. “This board appointment will allow her to further share her expertise to benefit children at both the national and global level.”

The ABP strives to improve training, establishes the requirements for certification, and sets the standards for its examinations. Their Board of Directors includes distinguished pediatricians in education, research, and clinical practice who focus their careers on the health and welfare of children and adolescents.

Dr. Steinhorn is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in neonatal perinatal medicine and fetal pulmonary development. She joined Children’s National in Sept. 2015 after leaving UC Davis Children’s Hospital, where she served as Medical Director and Chair of the Department of Pediatrics. Prior to joining UC Davis in 2012, Dr. Steinhorn was Vice Chair of Pediatrics and Division Head of Neonatology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago.

In addition to this board appointment, Dr. Steinhorn was recently elected to the Council of the American Pediatric Society (2015-2020) and is currently completing a five-year term on the American Board of Pediatrics (Neonatal Perinatal Medicine). She is an elected Fellow of the American Heart Association and a member of the Perinatal Research Society and American Thoracic Society. Dr. Steinhorn is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Pediatrics, and serves as an Associate Editor for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and on the editorial boards of American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Circulation, and the NEJM Journal Watch for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine.
