Reuters Covers Study Led by Children's Expert Looking at Racial Disparities in Pain Management

Monika K. Goyal, MD, Center for Hospital-Based Specialties, led a study published in JAMA Pediatrics that found black children were 80 percent less likely to be given opioids than white children. Dr. Goyal said these findings were particularly striking to find in pediatrics and that it's important to recognize racial disparities in order to fix them. Data was pulled from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey on almost one million patients age 21 and younger.
