Washington, DC — Kathleen Chavanu Gorman, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Patient Care Services, was recently named to the Becker's Hospital Review list of “130 Women Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know,” which spotlights female healthcare leaders from some of the largest and most prominent hospitals and health systems across the nation.

Leaders were selected by the Becker's Hospital Review editorial team through a review process that considered a wide range of demonstrated management and leadership skills, such as oversight of hospital or health system operations, financial turnarounds, and quality improvement initiatives. Gorman also was named to the list in 2013.

“We are pleased to see Kathy recognized as an influential healthcare leader for a second year,” said Kurt Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children’s National Health System. “She plays a critical role at Children’s National leading initiatives to improve and enhance patient care services. This is a well-deserved testament to her work for the benefit of children everywhere.”

In October 2014, Gorman was inducted as a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing for her significant contributions to nursing and healthcare. She rejoined Children’s National in 2012 from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) where she served as Senior VP of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, and Assistant Dean of Clinical Practice at the University School of Nursing. Prior to her tenure at CHOP, Gorman was the VP of Quality and Support Services at Children’s National until 2009. During that time, she also led the Quality Program, Clinical Resource Management Program, Family Service Department, and played a critical role in achieving Magnet® status at Children’s National in March 2010.
