Brian Jacobs named CIO Visionary by HealthData Management

Washington, DC – Brian Jacobs, MD, Vice President, Chief Information Officer and Chief Medical Information Officer at Children’s National Health System was recognized by HealthData Management as CIO Visionary. 

The inaugural announcement features Health Care Data All-stars that strive to improve patients’ health and financial performances of organizations through innovation and analytics. The program showcases trailblazing leadership that turns data into action. 

“Dr. Jacobs is an integral part of our leadership team. He carries a tremendous vision for our health information technology (IT) strategies and passion in his work,” said Kathleen Gorman, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President of Patient Care Services for Children’s National. “His determination to change the outcomes of patient care delivery through data and analytics has set exceptional strides at Children’s, and in the healthcare industry as a whole. I am elated that he was recognized for his impressive work.” 

While serving dual roles for Children’s National, Dr. Jacobs expanded Electronic Health Record (EHR) technology across inpatient departments, ambulatory clinics and regional data exchange, including 240 independent physicians, as well as advocated the use of geographic information systems (GIS). Most recently, Dr. Jacobs merged standard EHR data with GIS software, which integrates health data and geospatial coordinates to gather insight into childhood obesity and offer potential interventions. In addition, Dr. Jacobs serves as the Executive Director of the Center for Pediatric Informatics and oversees the Children’s IQ Network, a pediatric health information exchange in Washington, DC, metropolitan region.
