Children's National and Inova Health Systems Collaborate in Pediatric Specialty Care
September 30, 2013
Fairfax, Va -- Pediatric Specialists of Virginia begins operations today as a collaboration between Children's National and Inova. Designed to make pediatric specialty care more accessible to families in Virginia, the specialty practice offers pediatric services in: Oncology and Hematology, Gastroenterology, Genetics, Nephrology, and Orthopaedics. Additional services will be added in the coming year.
The practice is led by two Chief Medical Officers: Ian Leibowitz, MD, will serve as the Chief Medical Officer for Medical Services and Jeffrey Hanway, MD, will serve as the Chief Medical Officer for Surgical Services. They are joined by Gregg R. Florentin, who will serve as Chief Operating Officer. Loring Flint, MD, Inova’s Chief Medical Officer, and David Wessel, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for Hospital and Specialty Services, Children’s National, will serve jointly as CEOs.
“Nationally, there aren’t enough pediatric specialists to meet demand, and that imbalance is pronounced in Northern Virginia for many specialties, said Dr. Leibowitz. “The Inova system provides broad reach with families in the Northern Virginia market, and Children’s National provides enhanced pediatric specialty focus. Working together to form Pediatric Specialists of Virginia, two leading organizations can serve children more effectively.”
“Working together, Children’s National and Inova – both leaders in health care – will better serve patients and families in Virginia,” said Dr. Leibowitz.
"This collaboration is a perfect illustration of how true innovators can work together to focus on what best serves children and families," said Dr. Hanway. "As the healthcare market changes, this partnership is an important and novel model that ensures the needs of children are met."
Pediatric specialists affiliated with each health system will practice together in several locations. (For more information about specialty locations, consult the Pediatric Specialists of Virginia website.) Current patients of all the specialists involved have received information about the new collaboration and will have access to the combined clinical care teams.
