In honor of Black History Month, Children's National's Joseph Wright, MD, recently talked about his "late in life inspiration," Vivien Thomas. Thomas was an African American working as a hospital janitor who helped develop a groundbreaking procedure that corrected blue baby syndrome in pediatric heart surgery.
