Pediatric Dentistry Residency
Children's National Hospital offers a two-year certificate program in Pediatric Dentistry. The program is accredited by the American Dental Association.
The Children's National Hospital is an internationally renowned, level 1 pediatric trauma center and level 1 pediatric surgery center. The program in pediatric dentistry offers a broad exposure to all relevant components of pediatric dentistry including but not limited to well children, children with special health care needs, minor and major dental traumas, sedation techniques, orthodontics, endodontics and operating room experience. To provide a high level of care, the pediatric dental residents have available to them many other specialists and support personnel with whom they may consult in the treatment of cases requiring a multidisciplinary approach.
The institution also sponsors a large craniofacial center that pediatric dental residents actively participate in as part of the craniofacial team. The primary emphasis through all these activities is to integrate clinical experience with didactic knowledge.
In addition to daily lectures and seminars that require active resident participation, all residents must complete a data collection driven research project. Residents are expected to present or defend their research at the departmental level, as well as at national meetings.
