The fellowship offers dynamic opportunities for clinical, translational and basic research under the guidance of NIH-funded researchers. Each fellow will be paired with a research mentor and a scholarship oversight committee, responsible for providing direction and oversight of the fellows’ research projects.

In addition to learning how to prepare abstracts and manuscripts for publication, submission of at least one first-authored basic science or clinical research manuscript is required from each fellow. (Multiple abstracts to scientific meetings are encouraged). Each fellow is required to complete the Fellows Core curriculum offered through Children’s National.

Fellows are also provided an opportunity to further their research education through either master’s level degree granting programs or individual coursework. The master's level degree granting programs include either a Masters of Science in Health Sciences (MSHS) in Clinical and Translational Research granted through the George Washington University (GWU) School of Medicine & Health Sciences or a Master’s of Public Health granted through the GWU School of Public Health.
