Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship
The Pediatric Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship at Children’s National Hospital is a one-year fellowship with the mission to develop the next generation of academic leaders in the field of pediatric emergency medicine point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS).
Our fellowship, one of the first eight pediatric-specific ultrasound fellowships, is one of the most established in the nation. Our faculty have been leaders in the field for more than a decade, teaching POCUS nationally and internationally. We are also one of the first hospitals with a hospital-wide POCUS oversight committee (HOCUS POCUS), fostering excellent relationships with other divisions in the hospital and affording opportunities to learn from and teach other disciplines.
How to Apply
Board-certified or eligible pediatric emergency medicine physicians and pediatricians may apply. We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and accept applications through the Emergency Ultrasound Fellowship website.

Explore Our Program
Our fellowship is a unique partnership that collaborates closely with the General Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship at George Washington University (GWU) Hospital. Both Children’s National and GWU have robust global health programs, which provides the ultrasound fellow with opportunities to teach internationally.
Graduates of our program will be proficient in the following four domains:
Clinical Scanning
Fellows will gain experience with the full complement of POCUS applications recommended for use in the emergency department.
Education
There are ample opportunities to teach core skills and procedures to a varied group of learners, including, but not limited to, graduate medical students, residents, fellows and faculty.
Research
Opportunities to advance in the field through independent scholarly investigation in areas such as clinical research, quality improvement and medical education.
Administration
Graduates will develop the knowledge and skills needed to establish POCUS programs and serve as future leaders in the field, including, but not limited to, expertise in quality assurance, hardware and information technology issues, billing, and credentialing.
