The educational mission of Children's National Hospital is to support the premier standard of excellence in caring for children by preparing pediatric caregivers, both within and beyond our walls, to practice outstanding pediatric medicine in the 21st century. We are incredibly blessed at Children’s National to have such diverse, passionate and talented physician trainees in our GME programs. Children’s National is committed to investing in the education of our residents and fellows. Just as the medicine we provide our patients should be evidence-based, we at Children’s National know that the education we provide our trainees should also be evidence-based. By fostering a community rich in collaboration, innovation, academic inquiry and mentorship, our renowned faculty in the Children’s Academy of Pediatric Educators (CAPE) and graduates of the Master Teacher Leadership Development Program advance the science of pediatric education so that our trainees can truly embrace the rewards of evidence-based education.

In 2020, Children’s National celebrated its 150th anniversary – making it the fourth oldest children’s hospital in the country. Children’s National has a rich tradition of providing pioneering, quaternary care to an international referral base while at the same time serving as the safety-net medical center for the community of children in Washington, D.C. Our faculty provides expert education and mentorship to train the next generation of pediatric experts and leaders.  Our GME programs are skillfully designed to provide our trainees with the fundamental knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to achieve proficiency, competency and mastery in both clinical practice and scholarly research.
