During which rotation dates does the Advancing Academic Pediatrics program occur?

Please note the Children’s National Hospital clinical rotation dates that coincide with the Advancing Academic Pediatrics program:

Aug. 4 to Aug. 31, 2025
Sept. 1 to Sept. 28, 2025
Sept. 29 to Oct. 26, 2025

In order to participate in the Advancing Academic Pediatrics program, you will need to participate in a rotation during this time frame. If you would require minor variations in the dates, please contact us to discuss prior to applying.

Can I submit a part of the application late?

No, please do not forget to finalize your Advancing Academic Pediatrics application by May 2, 2025.

Applications that are not completed and submitted by that date will not be considered. All supporting documents must be included.

We will only include documents received by May 2, 2025, in this review.

Do I have to also apply through AAMC’s Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) / Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS)?

Yes. The Advancing Academic Pediatrics application is for funding and inclusion in our additional program.

The VSAS application is how we place our visiting students into clinical rotations, a key portion of the program. Please submit your rotation preferences via VSAS by May 2, 2025.

I can’t find Children’s National on VSLO/VSAS! What should I do?

All Children’s National electives are listed under George Washington University in VSAS because we are their department of pediatrics.

The VSLO/VSAS elective application will open April 1, 2025.

Does it matter which rotations I apply for?

No, however it does matter to how many rotations you apply. Providing more clinical rotation options within the above time frame increases the likelihood that we will be able provide an opportunity for you.

You are encouraged to apply for all rotations that interest you in every time period that you are available.

Acting Internships (a.k.a. sub-internships) are among the most competitive. If you apply for an acting internship, you are strongly encouraged to apply for other electives as well.

What kind of USMLE/COMLEX score report should I submit?

An unofficial copy is acceptable but a score must be included. Simply indicating passing or not passing is not sufficient.

Do you need an official copy of my medical school transcript?

No, a transcript is required but an unofficial copy is sufficient for the purposes of the Advancing Academic Pediatrics application.

Do I need to submit a letter of recommendation?

Yes, one letter of recommendation is required for your application to be considered complete.

Please have a faculty member who knows you clinically (rotation director, faculty who has worked with you on a rotation, pediatrics or otherwise, etc).

Only letters that are received by May 2, 2025, will be considered.
