Through research, the Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences team at Children's National is able to learn more about the factors involved in psychological and behavioral disorders, and to identify new treatment options and interventions for patients.

We conduct research involving children and adolescents ages 6-17 experiencing various conditions. Some of the research we do is pharmacological clinical trials under the guidance of Dr. Adelaide Robb. For more information, visit the currently enrolling research trials page.

The Benefits of Research for Patient Care

Many physicians at Children's National also conduct research through Children’s National Research Institute, in an effort to find new and better treatments for children as quickly and effectively as possible. Good candidates for research include those seeking new treatments, those looking for increased management and care, and those without insurance. Participants in these trials play an important role in improving mental health treatments for children. We are very experienced in treating children and teenagers before, during and after their participation in research.

For Healthcare Professionals

There are several options for medical students to complete a research elective in psychiatry research through Children's National or via the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry's (AACAP) medical student research fellowships as paid summer electives. For further information visit www.aacap.org website. Fellows may conduct research during the second year of training.
