Community Outreach and Education Programs

IMPACT DC Asthma Clinic is committed to increasing asthma awareness and providing evidence-based asthma educational outreach throughout the Washington, D.C. region.

Our outreach program focuses on the following areas:

Schools and day care centers

Many children spend most of their day in school or daycare, where asthma can have a tremendous impact on their attendance, ability to learn and participation in normal activities. We work closely with school nurses, teachers, parents and other caregivers to better identify, assess, and manage asthma in these settings, as well as assist them in reducing common triggers in these environments.

IMPACT DC partners with the Child Health Advocacy Institute, Children’s School Services and serves on the Health Advisory Board of the Educare and the Edward C. Mazique Parent Child Center.

We are proud to be listed as an approved trainer with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education to provide accredited asthma workshops for daycare and school staff working with young children.

Healthcare providers

Because primary care providers have such an important role in caring for children with asthma, IMPACT DC partners with clinics and pediatric offices to coach staff in evidence-based practices. These include providing high quality asthma education to families, the importance of having Asthma Action Plan on file in school or daycare for all children, and the use of evidence-based national guidelines to improve the health and quality of life for kids with asthma.

Community events

IMPACT DC participates in many community events, with an emphasis on those affiliated with Children's National Hospital and other partner organizations. Annual events include the NBC 4 Heath & Fitness Expo, Race for Every Child, Bringing It All Together Health Fair, HSCSN Health Fair, Latin American Youth Center Health Fair, Girls on the Run 5K and World Asthma Day.
