Music Therapy Internship

In 2021, the Music Therapy Program at Children's National became a National Roster internship site within the American Music Therapy Association.

As a result, we are currently accepting applications for one music therapy intern. The intern will have the opportunity to:

  • Shadow and work alongside two board-certified music therapists.
  • Interact and collaborate with child life specialists, art therapists, psychologists, nurses, physicians, social workers, physical and occupational therapists and education specialists as part of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Attend weekly psychosocial rounds and additional medical rounds they express an interest in.

During the internship, the beginning and end of the day will be dedicated to documentation and as part of the internship process. The intern will be expected to carry out one large project of their choice. The internship process is individualized and broken up into three parts:

  • Shadowing
  • Co-treatment
  • Independent

Interns may move through these at different times. The primary music therapy supervisor will be available to the intern throughout the internship to debrief or support the intern as needed, in addition to the mandatory hourly supervision. Interns are required to work 40 hours a week from 9 a.m-5 p.m. during the majority of the internship (with exception of holidays and planned time off).
