About the Provider

Diego Preciado, MD, PhD, is chief of Otolaryngology at Children’s National Hospital, a professor (with tenure) of surgery and pediatrics at George Washington University and holds the Joseph E. Robert, Jr. Endowed Chair in Pediatric Otolaryngology. Born in Minneapolis, he grew up in Panama. He then returned to the U.S. after high school and attended Georgetown University, graduating Cum Laude in 1992.

He then went on to obtain his MD and PhD degrees from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where he also completed residency training in otolaryngology. Subsequently, he did a two-year pediatric otolaryngology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Preciado joined the faculty at Children’s National in January 2006 where he has practiced ever since. His clinical practice is focused on pediatric airway reconstruction, childhood hearing loss/cochlear implants, and velopharyngeal insufficiency.

Dr. Preciado runs a translational research program which over the years has been funded through various intra and extramural awards including R01, U01 and R21 NIH grants. He has authored over 165 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 25 book chapters and three edited books. In 2020, he received the Robert Ruben Scientific Achievement Award from the Society for Ear Nose and Throat Advances in Children. He has served as president of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology (2020-2021) and the International Society for Otitis Media (2019-2023). He is a director for the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Preciado has been married to Argentinian architect Magali Remudo since 2004 and together they are the proud parents of four children. In his spare time he enjoys running, grilling over wood flame and reading Latin American and contemporary fiction novels.
