About the Provider
Dana Footer, PsyD, is a pediatric psychologist within Children’s National Hospital. She provides clinical psychology services to patients and families in the Divisions of Hematology, Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation. She also serves as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Her clinical interests include using psychological interventions to help patients and family members adjust to the challenges of diagnosis and treatment. Dr. Footer is part of the multidisciplinary Long-Term Follow-Up Clinic for transplant survivors and conducts pre-transplant psychological evaluations to determine suitability of sickle cell transplant candidates and identify areas for psychological intervention to facilitate positive post-transplant health outcomes and long-term psychosocial functioning.
Dr. Footer supervises advanced graduate psychology externs and post-doctoral psychology fellows in the hematology/oncology, and blood and marrow transplant psychology training program. She also helps in the selection of trainees and organization of training activities.
Dr. Footer earned her PsyD in clinical psychology from Roosevelt University. As part of her doctoral program, she completed an internship in pediatric psychology at Miami Children’s Hospital and a fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Boston Children’s Hospital with a specific focus on psychology within the pediatric neuro-oncology population.
