Employee Benefits

Children's National Hospital provides team members an opportunity to participate in one of two types of health insurance plans: a PPO- Preferred Provider Option; or, an HMO- Health Maintenance Organization. Team members share a portion of the premium costs, and premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis from a team member's pay. Coverage types are offered for team members and team members plus their families. Coverage is available the first of the month after the date of hire.

Plan Choices

Preferred Provider Organization (PPO): Participants in the Plan can choose to go to either the preferred providers or they may choose to go to any provider they choose outside the network.

High Deductible Plan with Health Savings Account (HSA): Uses a network of providers, just like the PPO plan, but the way to you pay for your care and prescription drugs is different.

Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO): Currently there are two HMOs offered as an option for health insurance coverage to Children’s National team members and their families. In an HMO, one doctor manages your care.

The Transparency in Coverage Final Rules require certain group health plans to disclose on a public website information regarding in-network provider rates and historical out-of-network allowed amounts and billed charges for covered items and services in two separate machine-readable files (MRFs). Children's National provides team members an opportunity to participate in a dental plan: the Children's Dental Plan (an indemnity dental plan). Team members share a portion of the premium costs, and premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis from a team member's pay. Coverage types are offered for team members and team members plus their families. Coverage is available the first of the month following date of hire.

Children's National offers team members the opportunity to elect to participate in the Vision Services Plan. The Plan provides comprehensive and quality eye care at a minimal out-of-pocket expense. This is a PPO (preferred provider) type program. Team members pay the premium, and premiums are deducted on a pre-tax basis from a team member's pay. Coverage types are offered for team members and team members plus their families. Coverage is available the first of the month following date of hire.

Children's National Hospital offers team members the opportunity to participate in the Children’s Affiliates' 401(k) Plan by making pre-tax contributions from their gross salary.

After meeting service requirements, Children's National will make a 100 percent matching contribution, based on the team member's contribution, up to 5 percent of their gross salary. Team members also can withhold additional, but unmatched money, in the plans, up to the maximum allowed by the Internal Revenue Code.

Children's National Hospital encourages and supports our team members' ongoing educational and development needs by providing an educational assistance program. After six months employment, you are eligible to apply for educational assistance.

Programs eligible for educational assistance include: undergraduate and graduate courses or programs which lead to a degree (other than the last available degree for that profession or program, such as a doctorate) and which directly relate to improving the performance of the team member in his/her current position.

Children's National Hospital provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which provides the opportunity to talk confidentially with a behavioral health professional about a wide range of personal matters in a confidential manner.

Team members, their covered eligible family members or other members of their immediate household are encouraged to take advantage of this benefit when needed. There is no cost to team members or eligible members of their household for the initial assessment or short-term counseling services provided by the EAP.

Annual Leave

Eligible team members accrue vacation based on the number of hours worked at Children's National. Vacation is accrued per pay period, according to team member level, and years of service. The number of weeks accrued varies from 2 to 5 weeks per year.

Sick Leave

Sick leave benefits are provided to ensure income during periods when team members must be absent from work due to personal illness or injury. Eligible team members accrue sick leave up to a total of 12 days annually, based on the number of hours worked.

Paid Holidays

Children’s National currently recognizes nine federal holidays as paid holidays. In addition, each benefit eligible team member receives an annual "floating holiday," added to their vacation accruals to use as they wish.

Parental Leave

It is the policy of Children’s National to offer 100 percent paid maternity, paternity, or adoption, leave for both men and women as they strive to balance their work with the challenging role of becoming parents, or as their families grow.
