Children's National Named Recipient of DC Hospital Association's Patient Safety Award
Washington, DC –The Children’s National Power of One Safety team was honored last night at the District of Columbia Hospital Association’s (DCHA) 36th Annual Awards Banquet.
The Power of One Safety team received the Patient Safety Award from DCHA for their work to ensure that all patients receive the highest safety and quality care in day-to-day activities. The award is given in recognition of programs that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to improving the culture of safety in an institution.
During the past year, the team increased its transparency of information and trainings not only with patients and families but also with fellow caregivers and senior leadership. Additionally, the team identified areas for improvement, such as in decreasing the amount of time in which test results were reported and plans were executed to address those needs.
At Children’s National, Power of One is a training and support program that empowers employees to make a positive difference within the institution, with each other, and with patients and families. Within Power of One, the safety team members are champions of behaviors and protocols that decrease any potential for harm to others and increase and maintain the satisfaction for patients and families as well as for fellow teammates.
All 6,000 staff members at Children’s National are required to complete Power of One training to learn the power of one individual. More than 100 clinicians and non-clinicians serve as Power of One coaches. The coaches meet monthly for updates and resources to support their work and attend the annual retreat to discuss progress and receive encouragement from other coaches.
The Power of One program has provided extensive training and resources to staff to ensure patients receive the best care in the safest environment.
