Linda Talley Named Chief Nursing Officer at Children's National Medical Center
Washington, DC—Linda Talley, has been appointed Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer for Children’s National. In her new role, she will oversee Nursing at Children’s National and hold responsibility for advancing nursing practice, research, and for supporting the Children's National commitment to exceptional patient care.
“As Interim Chief Nursing Officer this past year, Linda has shown strong leadership in advancing our nursing practice and ensuring the highest quality and safest care possible for the children we serve,” said Kathleen Gorman, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Executive Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Operating Officer for Children’s National. “Our medical and nursing faculty staff and our patients and their families all will continue to benefit from Linda’s dedication and commitment to excellence as she takes on this new role.”
Since Talley joined Children’s National as a staff nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, she has held positions of increasing responsibility. Before serving as Interim Chief Nursing Officer, she was Vice President of Nursing for Critical Care, Heart Institute, and Nursing Systems. In that capacity, she played a key role in Children’s National becoming a Magnet-designated hospital, led the Beacon certification for the hospital’s critical care units—a distinction held by very few in the country—and developed and implemented a multidisciplinary simulations program. Earlier, she served as the Director of Nursing Systems and Neonatal Services and as Nurse Manager in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Transport Team, and the ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Program.
She has authored numerous publications and presented nationally on nursing quality, safety, and workforce outcomes. She is a member of the Healthcare Technology Safety Institute steering committee, focused on advancing the safety of clinical alarms. As leader of the Children’s National Monitor Research Team, she received a national award in June from the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation for research on pediatric bedside monitor technology and its associated alarm fatigue.
Talley earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia and a Master of Science in Health Care Administration from the University of Maryland. She is a Board-Certified Nurse Executive and a graduate of the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and of the Nursing Leaders Program.
