Eileen Walters, MSN, RN, CPN, has been a registered nurse at Children’s National for more than 19 years. She started advocating for children with autism in the medical setting more than seven years ago in her role of pediatric nurse navigator. She is the co-founder and RN for the Autism Behavioral Communication support (ABCs) program, creating individualized medical care plans for children needing accommodations and support to improve their ability to cooperate with medical care and enhance their overall medical experience. Over the past year, the ABCs service has expanded to developing best-practices for the delivery of medical care for children with other developmental disabilities beyond autism.
