Coronavirus Update: What patients and families need to know

Update: Effective March 14, non-monetary donations will be restricted through the end of the month.

Donations

Donations are an important and vital part of what we do in Volunteer Services. You can help our patients by donating toys, clothing and books to make their hospital stay feel a little more like home. You can also provide monetary donations to help out as well.

COVID-19 Critical Supplies

We have received a tremendous amount of support and interest from individuals and companies asking to donate critical supplies to our system. Learn more about how you can support our team through supply donation and/or a monetary gift to support our ongoing needs to respond to the public health emergency impacting our community.

Dr. Bear’s Closet

Children’s National Volunteer Services team is happy to accept in-kind donations of brand new books, toys, clothing, and gift cards for our Dr. Bear’s Closet. In-kind donations are utilized throughout the year, and are given to patients and family members during their hospital visit to provide comfort, offer distractions and to normalize the hospital setting. These toys also allow us to stock our playrooms and provide gifts for birthdays and holidays..

Our current Dr. Bear’s Closet Wish List, as well as our donation guidelines and instructions can be found here.

Monetary Donations

The Children’s National Volunteer Services team accepts monetary donations throughout the year. Your donation will go directly to supporting Dr. Bear’s Closet, allowing us to always provide toys and other essential, non-clinical items year-round for our patients. Your donation allows us to maximize your gift by providing our staff with the flexibility to make “on-demand” toy purchases as they are needed and highly requested by our patients. Your donation additionally allows us to assist in providing special events or for our patients and families throughout the year, and to meet unexpected or emergency needs for patients and families, including clothing, transportation costs, and other essentials.
