Biography

Komal Sharma-Patel, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist in the Division of Psychology and Behavioral Health at Children's National Hospital. Dr. Sharma-Patel specializes in the treatment of mood, anxiety and adjustment disorders, as well as trauma or stress-related problems in youth.

She is a national certified provider and supervisor of Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT) and has expertise utilizing cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT), and dialectical-behavior therapy (DBT). Dr. Sharma-Patel has special interests in the assessment and treatment of sequelae of interpersonal trauma and mood disorders.

She tailors her therapeutic approach to provide therapy to patients and families in order to improve youth emotion regulation, increase coping skills, cope with anxiety and reduce trauma-related triggers (e.g., flashbacks, nightmares) as well as help caregivers provide support to youth.
