Biography

Kavita Parikh, M.D., MSHS, is a board-certified pediatrician, fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), associate professor of Pediatrics at The George Washington University and attending physician at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Parikh is committed to developing a career as an independent researcher in patient-centered outcomes research and is currently funded through a career training award (K08) through the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

Thus far, her academic career has focused on using health services research methodologies to understand pediatric respiratory diseases, and she has several publications in leading pediatric journals using these methodologies. She has published articles in Pediatrics, JAMA Pediatrics and Journal of Pediatrics among others, and has given national presentations and led national workshops. Dr. Parikh was awarded a “Young Investigator Award” from the Academic Pediatric Association for a project focusing on the impact of national practice guidelines on managing bronchiolitis. This work was highlighted in a variety of medical news outlets, including Medscape Medical News and Healio Infectious Diseases in Children and was also recognized as a “Top 10 Article” at the Pediatric Hospital Medicine national conference in 2014.

She has a national presence in the pediatric hospitalist community and served as an educational liaison for the Section of Hospital Medicine Executive Committee to promote hospitalist faculty at the AAP National Conference and Exhibition (NCE) and now is a member of the planning committee for the NCE, a distinct honor in AAP. She serves on the editorial board of Hospital Pediatrics, as well as the steering committee for the Value in Inpatient Pediatrics network and associate executive council member on the Pediatric Research in Inpatient Setting network. She also was elected to the prestigious Society of Pediatric Research.

Dr. Parikh completed her undergraduate education at Brown University, medical education at Cornell University Medical College and clinical residency training at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She completed her Hospitalist Fellowship at Children’s National and completed her Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Research from The George Washington University.

Her academic and clinical interests include standardizing care for common inpatient conditions, improving asthma care and firearm-violence prevention.
