Debbie Lafond, DNP, PPCNP-BC, CPON, CHPPN, has been a member of the Children’s National Hospital staff for over 25 years. Dr. Lafond is an advanced practice provider who has devoted her life to providing palliative care for children.
She has received numerous awards and honors for her work in nursing. She was named a 2019 American Academy of Nursing Fellow. She also is the recipient of the Dr. Casey Hooke Distinguished Service Award from The Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses.
Dr. Lafond began her career as a nurse practitioner in oncology. In 2012, she became board-certified in hospice and palliative care nursing and became one of the pioneers at Children’s National in developing the palliative care service. In 2013, when Children’s National formed our palliative care service, Dr. Lafond transitioned from neuro-oncology to support the new service full time.
