Cynthia Akagbosu, M.D., is a pediatric gastroenterology fellow at Children's National Hospital. She is board certified in general pediatrics and obesity medicine. Prior to that, she completed her undergraduate degree at Dartmouth College, medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine, and pediatrics residency at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Akagbosu's long-term research interests involve studying the pathophysiology of obesity, with a focus on discerning the molecular mechanisms that regulate obesity such as the gut microbiome. She is currently studying the gut microbiota of children and adolescents undergoing bariatric (weight-loss) surgery, before and after sleeve gastrectomy, with the long-term goal of developing microbiome-based therapeutics to treat childhood obesity.
