Having Surgery: What to Expect

When your child has been scheduled for surgery, our compassionate care team of pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses will help you understand the upcoming procedure and guide you through the entire process.

Our resources — created specifically for families — connect you with the information you need the most:

If you have additional questions, please contact your surgical scheduler.

Pre-Procedural Testing

To protect our patients, families and staff, coronavirus testing is required for all patients scheduled for a procedure. Testing allows us to identify children infected with coronavirus so that we can either postpone the procedure or take extra precautions to provide care for them in the safest way possible.

If your child is scheduled to have a procedure at any Children’s National location, they will receive coronavirus testing on the day of surgery at their point of care.
