Elisha Peterson, M.D. F.A.A.P., is a triple board-certified pediatric anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician with an expertise in pediatric chronic pain. She is the director of Chronic Pain and an assistant professor of Anesthesiology, Pain and Perioperative Medicine at Children's National Hospital/George Washington University. As a physician, she splits her time clinically between providing perioperative care for children in the operating room and serving children who have acute and/or chronic pain.
As a faculty member, Dr. Peterson plays an active role in medical student, resident and fellow education. She has been interviewed by Clinical Pain Advisor August 2019 about pediatric pain medicine and featured in the July 2018 Houstonia Kid's Health edition magazine providing advice to parents on opioid use postoperatively.
Dr. Peterson serves on multiple local and national committees to enhance pain education and improve the safety of opioid use and prescribing. She is a Mayday fellow (PDF) which advocates for reducing suffering from pain.
