World kidney day 2019: Assessing kidney function and predicting outcomes in chronic kidney disease
Susan Furth, M.D., Ph.D., celebrates World Kidney Day with the Children's National community as guest speaker. Dr. Furth will teach assessing kidney function and predicting outcomes in chronic kidney disease. Her broad experience includes teaching epidemiology and pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as heading the nephrology division and pediatrics department at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
Kidney disease affects millions of people worldwide, including many children who may be at risk at an early age. It is therefore crucial that we encourage and facilitate education on the causes of kidney disease in children, methods for early detection and an understanding of the consequences of kidney disease. As pediatricians, we need to promote healthy life style in children, to fight the increase of preventable kidney diseases and to treat children with inborn and acquired disorders of the kidneys worldwide.
