Real word evidence and digital technologies: Advancing pediatric disease outcomes research/management
Academic medical centers play a critical role in translating research into innovative therapies through conduct of randomized controlled clinical trials (RCT’s). However, RCT’s do not account for potent influencers of outcomes, namely the influence of health care delivery, patients’ behaviors, and social factors, on effectiveness of therapies in real world treatment settings. Capture of real world data elements will increasingly involve mining big data and use of digital technologies in the hands of health care providers and patients. These digitally powered clinical trials build real world evidence central to support effectiveness measures that map directly to expected outcomes in typical care settings.
