Pediatric traumatic brain injury and the ADAPT Trial
Pediatric traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading killer of children in the U.S. Evidenced-based guidelines have been developed to identify best practices. Overall, however, there is insufficient evidence to compel any therapies to be administered as true standards of care. The approaches and Decisions for Acute Pediatric Trial is a comparative effectiveness study to determine strategies that are associated with the best outcomes for children with severe TBI. This study has completed enrollment of 1000 children at 51 clinical centers in 8 countries. The rationale for this study and preliminary results will be the basis for this talk.
