Palliative care: Pediatric end of life care, policy and research
Palliative Care Month Mini-Series Part I - Pediatric End of Life Care, Policy and Research
Pamela Hinds, RN, PhD, FAAN
Association Center Director, Center for Translational Science
Director, Nursing Research and Quality Outcomes
Children’s National, The William and Joanne Conway Chair in Nursing Research
Early in her nursing career, Pamela Hinds was struck by the fact that some children could survive difficult illnesses and traumas, while others couldn't. This led her to a career of extensive research, where she explores the roles that communication, hopefulness, and palliative care can play in increasing healthy outcomes for entire family units, even in situations where death is inevitable.
Attendees of this session will be able to:
- Describe the role of the Institute of Medicine in end of life care, policy and research (1997; 2003; 2015).
- Analyze the role of pediatric health care providers in countering myths about dying in America that jeopardize best practices.
