Patients who have a history of trauma or violence in their homes or communities are at higher risk for experiencing agitated or aggressive behaviors in many settings, including the healthcare environment. How systems interact with patients and families at all encounters can impact how trauma-exposed patients engage in their care and respond to stressful situations.
This presentation will discuss this evidence, and review the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)’s framework for implementing a Trauma-Informed Approach to care at a systems level.
