Beyond Fairytale Endings: Bibliotherapy and Other Therapeutic Interventions in Pediatric Palliative Care

Lori Wiener, Ph.D., and Meaghann Weaver, M.D., M.P.H., F.A.A.P., present this topic in the Enrichment Lecture Series co-hosted by the Center for Translational Research and the End of Life and Palliative Care special interest group at Children's National Hospital.

Dr. Wiener is co-director of the Behavioral Science Core and Head of the Psychosocial Support and Research Program at the pediatric oncology branch of the National Cancer Institute. As both a clinician and behavioral scientist, she has dedicated her career to the fields of oncology and pediatric HIV/AIDS. Dr. Wiener and her colleague Dr. Weaver recently published a storybook, the Gift of Gerbert’s Feather. Through the perspective of a brave, dying gosling and his close community, this book was written to help children through the psychological and behavioral process of preparing for a natural end of life.
