Children’s National Health System received four awards from the
Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC) for its accomplishments in supporting and promoting organ donation. Earlier this month, the WRTC sponsored an educational Synergy Symposium, which brought together hospital administrative, supportive, and clinical professionals, and gave awards to various programs, units, and individuals for their outstanding work in organ, eye, and tissue donation.
During the event, Children’s National received a Silver Medal of Honor for reaching key benchmarks in conversion, donation, and organ transplantation. The Children’s Organ Donation Council was also recognized in the Donation Champion category, for “demonstrating best practices in the hospital setting, which in turn ensures success in all aspects of the donation process.”
Additionally, two Children’s staff members were given Best Practice Awards for their individual work to promote organ and tissue donation. Pediatric Intensive Care Specialist
Christiane Corriveau, MD, received an award in the “Recognizing Potential Donation after Cardiac Death” category, and social worker Gayle Gilmore received an award for her outstanding work in compassionately approaching families who are going through a difficult time, about organ donation.
Dr. Corriveau, who leads the Organ Donation Council at Children’s National, said “I remain incredibly proud of the hard work conducted by the organ donation council and team members, and am equally proud to be recognized by the WRTC for this important work.”
