Although Washington, D.C. has a low obesity rate overall, this is not the case for lower-income Ward 8 where the rate is much higher, and is populated by minorities. Ivor Horn, M.D., explains that there are many forms of health IT available that could be successful in addressing this high rate, but they are not reaching the population in the most need: minorities. She details four ways that health IT can benefit this population, and how to overcome some of the barriers in doing so.
