Christopher Spurney, M.D. joined the faculty of Children’s National Medical Center in July 2004 as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and was awarded the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Child Health Research Career Development Award. He has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Muscular Dystrophy Association and parent foundations. His work within the Center for Genetic Medicine Research focuses on the cardiomyopathy associated with muscular dystrophies. He performs preclinical research focusing on cardiac drug development in the dystrophin deficient mdx mouse model. His clinical research in the Children's National Heart Institute focuses on imaging outcome measures using both echocardiography and MR imaging and serum biomarkers in DMD related cardiomyopathy.
