Lamia Soghier, M.D., F.A.A.P., C.H.S.E., is an associate professor of pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences (GWSMHS). Dr. Soghier, a Board-Certified neonatologist, is medical director of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and the NICU Quality and Safety Officer at Children’s National. She earned a medical degree from the University of Alexandria in Egypt, completed a pediatric residency at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and a neonatology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore in the Bronx, New York.
Dr. Soghier is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in both pediatrics and neonatology. She has practiced pediatrics and neonatology in the U.S. and the Middle East. As an active clinician and researcher, she has multiple neonatology publications and book chapters. Dr. Soghier serves as the editor of the “AAP Reference Range Values in Pediatrics” and "Neonatal Simulation". She oversees the quality and safety initiatives within Children’s NICU and has collaborated in multiple clinical multi-center quality improvement projects. She is a member of the Quality Improvement committee at the Children's Hospital Neonatal Consortium.
Dr. Soghier is a medical educator and simulation expert. She obtained her master's degree in educational leadership from GWSMHS in 2016. Dr. Soghier is deeply interested in medical education for the care of newborns worldwide. She has traveled extensively to promote clinician education as a means of improving newborns' health. Her research and education focuses on applying novel technology in skill acquisition by pediatric trainees. Dr. Soghier has spoken nationally and internationally on medical education and neonatal research.
