Adeline (Wei Li) Koay, M.B.B.S., M.Sc., completed a pediatric residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch and a pediatric infectious diseases fellowship at Johns Hopkins University. She received a medical degree from the University of Melbourne in Australia, and a Master's in Science (Bacteriology) from the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia.
Dr. Koay’s clinical expertise and interests focus on the general pediatric infectious diseases and the care of children and adolescents with HIV. Her research focuses on the relationship between systemic inflammation and the gut microbiome in infections, specifically in people with HIV and children born to women with HIV. Dr. Koay was awarded a DC Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Pilot Award and a CTSI-CN Discovery Pilot Award in 2019 to study how maternal HIV exposure affects inflammation, immune activation and the gut microbiome in HIV-exposed infants in the larger Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Dr. Koay was also awarded a Mid-Atlantic CFAR Consortium Scholars Award in 2021 to study the impact of facilitating transportation to medical appointments for children and youth with HIV in the metropolitan DC area on HIV-related health outcomes.
