  • John T. Berger, III, M.D., serves as the Medical Director for the Pulmonary Hypertension Program and the Cardiac Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program. Dr. Berger joined the faculty at Children's National in 1996, and served as the Medical Director of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since its opening in 2005. He received an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and a medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He completed training in pediatrics at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

    Dr. Berger completed fellowships in pediatric cardiology and pediatric critical care medicine at Children’s National. Dr. Berger specializes in treating advanced heart failure, pulmonary hypertension and congenital heart disease. He is a co-investigator in the Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network funded by National Institutes of Child Health and Development.
