Division of Biostatistics and Study Methodology
The Division of Biostatistics and Study Methodology is part of the Children’s National Research Institute and consists of Ph.D.-level faculty and Master’s degree-trained biostatisticians and data managers.
Our mission is to provide investigators with comprehensive support to plan, implement and analyze studies requiring quantitative methods and sophisticated data management.
Letter from the Division Chief
It is an exciting time for research at Children’s National Hospital. As division chief of Biostatistics and Study Methodology and co-director of the CTSI Biostatistics Epidemiology and Research Design section, my goal is to assure that both programs provide the utmost quality. Prior to joining Children’s National, I was director of the Outcomes Center at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Before that, I served as associate professor of Medicine, Biostatistics and Clinical and Translational Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh where I was the principal investigator of the data and clinical coordinating centers of multi-site clinical trials. As an expert in the implementation and analysis of trials, registries, observational studies and quality improvement initiatives, my team at Children's National will tailor statistical analyses and data management to meet the specific needs of your study design, funder and data sources.
I believe the future of clinical research involves tapping into EMR data, national registries, prospective data collection and taking advantage of emerging sources of data collection such as tablets and mobile technologies. With the advent of cloud storage and rapid computer processing, we are poised to take advantage of machine learning and other advanced modeling techniques to improve all levels of clinical research and bedside care. I look forward to bringing your ideas into actionable studies and future improvements in the care of our children.
