Coronavirus Update: What patients and families need to know

How to Apply

Child Neurology Match

We plan to match four fellows for the pediatrics and child neurology residency, three categorical and one reserved position. We continue to hold one reserved position each year for candidates who identified their interest in child neurology during residency rather than medical school. We also have an additional advanced position each year for candidates who choose to complete their pediatric residency at a separate location from their child neurology training.

All candidates applying to the categorical positions will be eligible to match to a five-year position in both the pediatrics and child neurology residencies at Children’s National Hospital. As of the 2020-2021 interview season, you only need to apply to the child neurology categorical track to be considered for the categorical position. Interviews will be available virtually and, based on the evolving circumstances related to COVID-19, may be extended to in-person if possible. Please submit your application to any programs you are interested in through ERAS.

Tracks include:

  • Categorical child neurology – NRMP code 1070185C0. Three positions, medical student. Apply if you are interested in the categorical child neurology track to receive interviews in both pediatrics and child neurology.
  • Advanced child neurology – NRMP code 1070185A0. One position, medical student. Apply if you are interested in completing pediatrics at another hospital. Please note, you must apply for two years of pediatrics at other programs and would start with our child neurology program two years after you match.
  • Reserved child neurology – NRMP code 1070185R0. One position, physician only. Apply if you are already in a pediatrics residency and will be ready to start with our program in July after the match. Please note, you must have completed at least two years of ACGME-approved pediatric residency to be eligible for this position.

Candidates must also plan to take steps I and II of the USMLE before beginning their residency. International Medical Graduates must have completed USMLE steps I and II prior to applying and must demonstrate that they have had significant exposure to medicine in the United States.

Eligible candidates will be invited for interviews by the departments of Pediatrics and Neurology. You will receive more information about our interviews if invited.
